SKI FALL ESTATE AGENT TO BE JOINED BY HIS SONS FOR FINAL 10K LAP

The Managing Director of Plymouth estate agents Mansbridge Balment — a key Real Fusion client — will be joined by two very special people in the final strides of his emotional run in the forthcoming Plymouth 10k road race.

Run Plymouth, the organisers of the Britain's Ocean City running event on November 15 have given Darren permission for his sons Sam and Cameron to run the final 100 metres to the finishing line with their dad.

It will be an emotionally charged climax to Darren's run, which will take place less than a year after he suffered terrible head injuries in a ski accident in France. Real Fusion’s PR team has played a key role in press liaison for Darren in recent months as his fall and subsequent recovery attracted intense media interest.

Among the other 2,000 competitors will be two teams of 10 made up of several staff at the Plymouth Neurological Rehab unit, Mount Gould, which helped Darren to walk and talk again after he came out of a coma.

Touched by Darren's decision to raise funds for the unit, the staff wanted to show their support and join him on this year's run, which was saved thanks to sponsorship by Mansbridge Balment.

The 2015 run had been cancelled in the face of rising costs, but Mansbridge Balment, which has supported the event in previous years, came up with a generous main sponsor package to enable it to go ahead – to the delight of running clubs across the city.

"I feel extremely honoured and privileged that my sons who were with me in France when i fell can share in the final few yards of a race i am utterly determined to complete," said Darren.

"I have had such incredible support since the accident from many people, but i could not have recovered in the way i have without the support of the boys and my wife Debbie. Their courage and fortitude during a very difficult period has been nothing short of remarkable.

"It will be an incredibly emotional moment when i cross that finishing line and i would like to thank the organisers for agreeing to let them be at my side. It will be a moment i shall remember for the rest of my life."

There are still places available if you want to join Darren and the other competitors in the race.
